Leotards
In dance classes, almost any type of leotard can be worn. For competitions, it’s best to check with your dance teacher to find out if they follow any regulations, such as ISTD (The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) the RAD (The Royal Academy of Dance) or the BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dancing). Each have different regulations about the types of leotards acceptable for exams. During training, most dance schools will allow any type of leotard to be worn. Dance Store Direct stock both regulation leotards and non-regulation leotards. Styles available include the basic tank leotard and various fashion leotards with different strap types including low-backs, spaghetti straps and criss-cross straps. Styles vary too including, polo-neck leotards and ruche tank style leotards with colour coordinating belts. The most important factor in choosing a dance leotard for any age is to get a tight fit that conforms to the body allowing complete freedom of movement. The tight fitting nature of leotards allow for dance teachers, choreographers and audiences to clearly see the dancers posture during performance and training.
